Greetings St. Clement Elementary School Community,

We hope you are all enjoying a wonderful and joy-filled summer.! With the start of school approaching, we wanted to touch base with you to share a few items. Our dedicated staff are so excited to welcome everyone back to school next Tuesday, September 6th. We are looking forward to seeing smiles once again in our hallways, classes, in schoolyard. We remain dedicated to providing a quality Catholic education rooted in fostering a sense of community and belonging, nurturing responsible Saint students, and promoting high expectations in learning. We welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education too, and we look forward to working with you and your children.

Welcome: You may have heard the wonderful news as our Waterloo Catholic District School Board will “welcome back” our new Director, Mr. Tyrone Dowling. We are excited that his leadership will once again benefit the staff and students of our school communities.

We also have some amazing new additions to our school staff

  • Claire Rickerts  – Grade 3 Teacher
  • Laura Mainland – Grade 4 Teacher
  • Ayesha Corbyn – Education Assistant
  • Jennifer Hagen – Lunch Hour Supervisor

Thank you: Our awesome Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Simpson is officially back this week helping new families and registering new students. If you are in the registration process, please make sure that all forms are completed online and all necessary documents are uploaded.  If you are uncertain of the status of your child’s registration, please do not hesitate to contact the main office. We are grateful for all that she does to keep us up to date and organized.

We would like to extend our appreciation to our school custodians Ms. McGivern and Ms. Psutka who have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility and working to ensure that our school is ready to welcome students soon. We are grateful for all their efforts in preparation for the beginning of the year.

Hot Lunches: With the support of the Catholic School Advisory Council we will continue to offer a variety of hot lunches on Wednesdays. We are adding a weekly pizza day each Friday. Look for details coming soon!

Communication: Students in Grades 1-8 will be coming home with Agendas next week. Please support this initiative to help with communication and organization by paying on Cash Online.

We are committed to providing our families with as much information as possible. This begins today with our first official communication of the 2022-2023 school year. We will communicate with you any school news and updates via Newswire.  Please ensure you have subscribed so you do not miss out on important school communications. There will be a weekly update from the school, however, you may also receive additional information as we begin this school year or throughout the year that may be critical or time-sensitive.  We encourage all families to pay close attention to all updates shared by our school.

First Day of School: On your child’s first day of school, please note that students will be meeting their respective teachers on the blacktop at the back of the schoolyard. We kindly ask that parents and guardians stay in the pedestrian drop-off/pick-up areas and do not accompany your child(ren) on the schoolyard. We will have staff that will greet you at your entry points and guide your children where they need to go. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding. We will ensure that everyone is where they need to be!

Back to School Shopping: By now, you are seeing all the “Back to School” commercials and flyers in the community. Please know that this year we will NOT be providing Individual Learning Kits to every student in Waterloo Catholic District School Board. However, all of our classrooms have what your child needs to learn. Your child’s teacher may have a separate list of some alternative recommended items, but all the essential learning materials are provided within the class and school. If you are looking to purchase items for school here are a few items that are required:

  • Backpack
  • Lunchbox
  • Water Bottle (Refillable & Reusable)
  • Indoor Shoes (Sport style for the gym and to be left at school)

Transportation: Please find important information from STSWR in this recent communication: https://www.wcdsb.ca/important-student-transportation-update.  Please remember that all Kindergarten students must be met by a parent/guardian when transitioning from the bus. STSWR has indicated that a few routes will be delayed. Please see their website for more information.

School Cash Online: it is imperative that all families REGISTER for School Cash Online, as we no longer accept cash in the school. Notification will be from the email account you use when you register. Thanks for your cooperation. There will be many mandatory school start-up forms posted in School Cash Online for you to complete for each child next week. If you are not registered for School Cash Online please sign up NOW!

COVID Protocols: The health and well-being of our students, families, and staff will continue to be our first priority. Our school board is always working closely with Waterloo Region Public Health and following the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer. We will ensure health and safety protocols are in place and followed so that our students and staff can enjoy a safe and healthy learning environment this year. At this time, masks will not be mandatory for students, staff, and visitors in schools, or on student transportation. Since masking is optional and some individuals may choose to wear, or not to wear a mask within their school communities we strongly encourage everyone to be respectful of individual choices. It is still recommended that staff, students, and visitors continue to self-screen every day before attending school using either the COVID-19 school and child care screening tool and everyone should stay home if they are feeling ill to prevent the spread of illness.  We will continue to teach and model appropriate hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette. Hand sanitizer will continue to be provided and hand washing encouraged and integrated throughout the school day.

I am delighted to be joining the St. Clement community this year. I will truly embrace the motto “where each one counts”  and I cannot wait to get to know all of you as we begin this new school year together!

Stay safe,

Sherry MacDonald

Principal
