It is hard to believe that we are already mid October. Fall has slowly arrived and I am looking forward to the crisp air and the beautiful colours this season brings. All of the students and our families have been wonderful at following our safety procedures. We love that everyone is working hard and is excited to be at school enjoying the learning, the activities and the friendships. Thank you for all of our families for your continued diligence in completing the COVId-19 self-assessment for your child each and every day. A sincere thanks to all who have assisted in our present realities. Your ongoing support and patience as we work together have been much appreciated. The spirit of community, cooperation, and support for one another continues to be a blessing we enjoy at our school.

Here are some Reminders:

Daily Screening: Thank you for your continued diligence in completing the COVID-19 screening for each child(ren) every day. Here is the link:  Please note that even when you don’t need to send us the results, you still need to complete the screening every day before your child(ren) come to school. If there are any symptoms your child must stay home. The symptom list found on the screening is the same symptom list we are looking at in order to help us to determine whether to send a student home during the day. If students begin to experience any of the symptoms listed, we will call and ask that they be picked up and taken for a COVID-19 test.

Pizza Fundraiser is Back: Who doesn’t love PIZZA! With the amazing success last year with our Pizza fundraiser, CSAC has decided to do this fundraiser again. On Nov. 8th, 9th and 10th from 4 PM to close (9 PM) Saints are encouraged to go out for dinner that night to New Orleans Pizza – our local pizza establishment. During that time, a portion of sales will be donated back to the school. We thank you in advance for your support of fundraising initiatives and supporting local at the same time – it’s a win-win!

Halloween Costumes and Treats at St. Clement: On Friday, Oct. 29, students are most welcome to show their Halloween spirit by wearing costumes to school. Students are to wear non-violent costumes/clothing.  We also ask that students not wear full face masks as all students are required to wear their personal protective face mask due to public health regulations. For students who do not wish to wear costumes on this day, they are invited to wear black and orange for a Halloween color theme. Due to the global pandemic we continue to remain in, please do not send Halloween Treats to school for students to share. Thank you for your understanding during this unique time.

Spirit Wear Update & New Purchases: We have ordered each student a t-shirt with the size that parents designated on School Cash On Line courtesy of CSAC. The vendor will be sending these t-shirts to the school and we will distribute them. It is so exciting that every student will have Spirit Wear for Thursday’s Spirt Wear Day!

Additionally, we have other items that you may want to order (track pants, sweatshirts, cinch bags and more!). The items and the associated costs can be found here: St Clements 2021 Spirit Wear Order Form

Orders/Payments are due and sent directly to Pardon Promotions by Wednesday, Oct. 27th. Kindly email pdf order form or photo to and information for payment is in the flyer above. Happy Shopping!

Hot Lunches: Hot lunches are back and ordering is now open! Students will be able to choose from our local New Orleans Pizza, Boston Pizza, Pita Pit, and Lunch Lady every Wednesday (please see our school calendar for the details: . )

If you wish to order hot lunches for your child(ren), please register for an account with Lunchbox by visiting, click “Order Lunch” at the top right of the webpage, then click “Create Account” to register (you can also try logging in using the same login as your School Cash Online account, as Lunchbox and School Cash are connected). You can then add multiple children to your account- please ensure you enter the correct teacher and grade for each child to avoid any delivery errors. Vendors have been prearranged and will alternate each week between New Orleans Pizza, Boston Pizza/Pita Pit, and Lunch Lady. Lunches can only be ordered via your account on this website before the set deadlines- the school is not responsible for ordering or changing deadlines.

You can view this document for more information including contact information for Lunchbox if you have any questions or concerns: St. Clement Catholic School 2021-22 (1).pdf

Thank you, Ms. Brenner for all of your efforts in organizing hot lunches for our students.

Playground Equipment: Playground equipment has been recently inspected by the WCDSB. The main playground is in need of repairs. WCDSB will be taking care of the repairs and will inform the school when we are permitted to open the main playground. The Kindergarten playground has no issues/repairs and can be used by Kindergarten and Extended Day starting on Monday!

Septic System repairs: WCDSB is coordinating investigative work for the septic system at St. Clement.  This work will require that a section of the asphalt play area at the north end of the school (near the Charles Street / Church Street intersection) is cordoned off.  Students will not have access through this area where they normally access the play yard. This means that bus pick up / drop off will have to be relocated to the beginning of Charles Street (using the sidewalk to walk across the front of the school) starting October 26th for approximately 3 days while the work is underway.  Students would have access to the play yard via the driveway which runs between the church and school. Many thanks for your understanding.

WCDSB Updates: Please visit our School Board Website for updates and recent information.  Here is the link: Families are reminded to check the WCDSB website regularly for updates on our Operational Guidelines.  Please know families can review the Ventilation Report for schools and/or the Board should you wish to have more information:

Umbrella Project: Did you know… students are encouraged daily to show their Saints Umbrella Skills. Staff recognize students showing their skills for the month. Students from each class will be recognized and celebrating for their skills.

Umbrella Project: Theme for the Month of October: Empathy

Start a phone bin

Technology provides us with a great many benefits but one downfall is its impact on our empathy levels. When we are immersed in our devices we get less practice with face-to-face interactions, communication and interpreting people’s feelings, all key components of empathy.

To build empathy this week, start to carve out device-free time in your home with a phone bin.  Use it over dinner, while playing a family game or walking to get ice cream. Have everyone with a device throw it in the bin and just enjoy each other’s company without distraction. Try to find a few chances every week to connect this way.

Time without technology is critical in helping our children develop empathy. Even before they themselves have these devices, our empathy levels as parents are impacted by this divided attention and we are modelling behaviours that are very important for our child’s future development. In my home, I find my 7 and 9 year old will ask for this device-free time now. A great start for when they get their own technology to manage.

Health & Happiness,

Dr. Jen, The Umbrella Project
