Treaty Awareness Week (Nov. 1-7)
- As many schools and offices are now saying a territorial acknowledgment at the beginning of the day or meetings, recognizing treaty awareness within the acknowledgment or using the acknowledgment as part of the learning of treaty awareness is a next step in deepening one’s knowledge of Indigenous perspectives. Treaty Awareness Weekwas introduced in 2016 to honour the importance of treaties and to help Ontarians learn more about treaty rights and treaty relationships. Teachers have been provided with resources to guide conversation and learning about treaty rights and treaty relationships.
