Weather Forecast

The next three days are calling for a bit of rain, however, so kindly check that your child has indoor/outdoor shoes or boots and a rain jacket if needed.

In the event of a sprinkle or mist we will be going outside for recess breaks. Even if we can only get out for a few minutes, it gives students a break from their desks, a little movement, fresh air and a mask break!

Reminders for the Week: September 20-24, 2021

We are excited to have another great week under our belt and even more joyful that our JK/SK students are now with us all day, every day! Here are some Reminders:

Picture Day is Coming! – September 29th: We are pleased to announce that Lifetouch is coming on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 to take individual pictures of students and staff. Please see the Lifetouch video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LevtvXI9l2Q which shows the steps that they are taking to ensure Picture Day is safe for everyone.

Pictures are to be ordered directly via Lifetouch: mylifetouch.ca using this Picture Day ID: QX551193Q0

Daily Screening: Parents/Guardians are to complete a daily COVID-19 screening on their children before sending them to school.  We no longer require proof of the screening. If there are any symptoms your child must stay home. Here is the link: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Virtual Open House – The week of September 20-24th: Unfortunately, due to Public Health restrictions we will not be able to hold an in-person open house.  Instead, our teachers will be hosting a virtual open house.  Each classroom teacher will communicate to their families how they will be conducting their open house and the date/time. We know this is not the same as being in the school, but we will try our best to let you into our classrooms virtually and get a feel for a day in the life of your child/ren.

Orange Shirt Day – Thursday September 30: Saints will be celebrating Orange Shirt Day on September 30th. Orange shirt day’s purpose is to recognize the impact of the Residential school system for First Nations, Metis and Inuit families and communities. It is a show of support and understanding of the history of the school system that impacts many First Nations, Metis and Inuit people today. By wearing an orange shirt, we have an opportunity to bring awareness to the history of residential schools and to stand up against other injustices that may impact our children/students. Let’s turn our St. Clement hallways ORANGE!

As we near the end of another week of school, I just wanted to take a moment to let you all know how PROUD we are of your children! We are so glad to be back at school experiencing recesses without masks, equipment outside again, and of course, lunch with friends!

There have been some changes this week, but your child(ren) did it with confidence and resilience and we appreciate how much you supported them at home with transitions.

There have also been so many sacrifices in the past several months, and your child(ren) as well as yourselves have endured very effectively! You have done a wonderful job, and although we are not out of the woods yet, it is important to recognize the many successes we have had! You have struggled but you have persevered!

Your child(ren) are absolutely wonderful and amazing! They have continued to dealing with masks throughout the day when they have to and they do it without complaints! They have jumped back into the routine of the day and they have shown fantastic resilience! They continue to demonstrate their learning and show all of us that they are so very capable.

These past several months have demonstrated to me and our entire staff that because of our community, because of the students, St. Clement School is THE BEST PLACE TO BE!

The entire staff wishes you a wonderful weekend!

Be safe and stay healthy!

District 8 Announcement Regarding Return of Athletics in 2021-22

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board and District 8 Athletic Association are happy to announce the return of its interschool athletic programming effective September 20, 2021.
Active participation in athletics has known health benefits, including physical fitness and mental wellness.
Athletics provides social interaction which is necessary in a time of uncertainty for our students. It is with this in mind that we have prioritized getting our youth back to play and competition with health and safety as our primary focus.
As the pandemic continues, it is all our responsibilities to take reasonable steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect all individuals who participate in our athletic activities. The WCDSB and District 8 will be implementing every strategy within our ability and as recommended to keep our student-athletes, teacher-coaches, officials and public safe.
In order to offer the safest possible option for a return to sport, all student-athletes (born 2009 and earlier) and teacher-coaches who wish to participate in interschool athletics must show proof of full immunization against COVID-19 (two doses plus 14-day waiting period) OR provide negative rapid antigen test results to their school twice per week.
This protocol will take affect Monday September 20th when practices and tryouts are able to resume. Competition schedules will be released as soon as they become available. The WCDSB is encouraging schools to organize safe intramural activities at their school, especially for those students born in 2010 or later, so that all ages can enjoy the benefits that physical activity offers.
All officials and volunteer coaches (non-school staff) must be fully immunized against COVID-19 (two doses plus 14-day waiting period). In addition to these very necessary measures, there are additional general protocols to ensure public safety.
These initiatives include but are not limited to; attendance tracking to conduct contact tracing, daily screening prior to participation, sanitization of high touch surfaces, mandatory masking for all individuals not actively involved in play, physical distancing where possible, spectator restrictions and more. Students who wish to learn more about the interschool athletic opportunities at their school should contact their school’s main office and/or athletic director for more information.

Thursday is Spirit Wear Day!

Reminders for the Upcoming Week: September 13 – 17, 2021

It is a great start to our school year. Just like reuniting with a good friend or family member after a long absence we easily picked up where we left off.  It is nice to see the smiles and energy back in the building and classrooms.  I wish to thank the teachers for their commitment to making the first few days welcoming and engaging. Our work began weeks before Sept. 7th.

I would like to thank the parents and guardians of our students for preparing your children for the start of school. They have quickly adapted to school routines and continue to display kindness, love and respect which are core to a Catholic Education. Hats off to you, Parents!

Staffing Update:

We welcome Ms. Gillies who will be in the afternoons for Mrs. Alvarez. We are excited to have you join our team!

Important Reminders:

  1. Daily Screening: Parents/Guardians are to complete a daily COVID-19 screening on their children before sending them to school.  The Government requires you to show proof that the screening results were negative for COVID-19 by sign the form sent home this week.  It must be signed and come to school with your child each day.  If there are any symptoms your child must stay home. Here is the link: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
  2. Student start-forms need to be completed at the start of each school year. Please complete these forms by going onto your child’s School cashonline account. There have been some glitches- see below for help with this.

Exciting School News:

    1. Nutrition for Learning will be starting up soon. Students will be provided with a small snack in the morning. We thank Mrs. Salese who is volunteering to run this program at our school. More information to follow.
    2. Spirit Days are back! Students are encouraged to show their enthusiasm for our great school by wearing their Spirit Wear or Blue or Gold on Thursdays! It is so great to see the energy in the school on Thursdays when we see a sea of blue and gold! #GoSaints!
    3. Terry Fox Run! St. Clement Terry Fox School Run: On September 27th our school will be proudly participating in the 41st Terry Fox School Run. Over 9,000 schools across Canada are taking part in the run this year and that means that over 3 million students will be fundraising for cancer research in Terry’s name. This is one of our most favourite events of the year – we get to celebrate the life of Terry Fox, his Marathon of Hope, and show our incredible school spirit as we come together to help others. We all know that Terry Fox is one of our greatest Canadian heroes but sometimes we forget how hard his struggle was and why we continue to do the Terry Fox Run every year. Our event this year is an opportunity to take action, show leadership, and set examples of compassion and kindness towards others. Students will be staying on school grounds and each class will have an opportunity to participate remaining in their class cohort. Please consider supporting us in our mission, and help us raise funds for cancer research. You can make an online contribution through the St. Clement school page at http://www.terryfox.ca/StClementCSStClements Thank you for your support on behalf of the staff at St. Clement School.
    4. Catholic School Advisory Council: The Catholic School Advisory Council is looking for new members. Nominations will be accepted until 3 PM on September 14th. Forms are to be completed on cashonline and/or can be emailed to andrea.dafoe@wcdsb.ca. The voting will take place at our first CSAC meeting on September 21st at 6:30 PM virtually. A link will be sent out closer to the date. If you are interested in being a part of this dynamic group of parents, who work with the Principal and school staff, please consider becoming a part of the council.
    5. Student Agendas: Each student received an agenda to practice skills of organization and responsibility. We are so very thankful for the generous donations from parent council that covered the cost of the agendas.
    6. Clubs, Teams and Sports News: Information on the many clubs and teams will be sent home once we receive a final word from Public Health and WCDSB that we are able to begin them.
    7. The Umbrella Project: St. Clement will be continuing our participation in The Umbrella Project. The Umbrella Project is a curriculum designed program to help your child learn the skills of emotional wellbeing. Developing the emotional wellbeing skills will help your child lead a happier, more successful life. Learn more on the umbrella of emotional wellbeing on our website here: https://umbrellaproject.co/2019/05/01/umbrella-welcome-video/ You are invited to follow along with your child’s learning journey for each new skill by subscribing to a weekly newsletter (details below) where you will be provided information, stories, challenges and tips about fostering the skill your child is focusing on in class. Caregivers have a powerful impact on childhood wellbeing and your participation will help to deepen your child’s understanding of these important skills. Tips will be sent home monthly according to the theme of the month.
    8. Learning Commons Renovations: Ewe are so excited that our renovation for our Learning Commons (formally known as the library) are now complete! It is so bright and cheery and welcoming. Mr. Walsh is working hard to get all of the books back on the shelves!

Start-up Forms: Student start-up forms are found on School Cash Online. Please complete all forms by September 13th, 2021. Some of our families have been having issues submitting these forms. Make sure you are submitting them on a desktop computer using Google Chrome, and that you are submitting the correct forms for this school year (2021-22 forms, not the 2020-21 forms!) If this still doesn’t work, let your child’s teacher know with a note in the agenda and we can follow up with you.

Updates from the WCDSB:

  1. This Fall, the WCDSB will be conducting a student census. While the Ministry of education requires all school districts to conduct this census, the WCDSB is committed to collecting quality, relevant student demographic data, so we can meet the needs of all of our students. You can learn more about the census at www.wcdsb.ca .
  2. Communication Guidelines for Parents: At any given time during the year, you may have some concerns or issues that you need to have resolved. School Councils are not forums to discuss teacher-student-parent issues. The Waterloo Catholic District School Board has established guidelines for parents to follow if issues happen. They are as follows:

Step One: Parents should speak to the teacher. If the issue is not resolved proceed to step two.

Step Two: Parents should speak to the principal. The principal may involve the teacher in the discussions. The principal may request, at any time in the process that concerns be put in writing. The principal may involve at any time in the process, others who may be helpful in resolving the concern. If the issues is not resolved, contact the Supervisory Officer. If a Supervisory Officer, Trustee, Executive Administrative Assistant receives an inquiry about an incident or school related matter, they will record the name of the individual making the inquire, the nature of the inquiry and direct the person to follow the communication inquires/concerns process outlined above.
