Terry Fox School Run – Thursday, October 1, 2020.

St. Clement Catholic Elementary School is proud to take part in this year’s 40th Anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope.

Each class will be walking (physically distanced) individually for this worthy cause.

In the past, we have collected twoonies for Terry. Unfortunately, we are unable to collect money due to COVID-19. You are still able to donate under our school name by clicking on this link.

Please help show your support by donating.

Students can even get involved too by creating their own fundraising page under their school name

Thank you for supporting our school in the fight against cancer and continuing Terry’s legacy! #terryfoxschoolrun

Hello Saints!

Just a few updates:

Opening Liturgy: As we are not able to gather together for an opening Mass to begin the school year, our school Chaplain, Sarah Kwiecinski has collaborated to create a Welcome Back Message and an Opening Liturgy. Your child’s teacher has scheduled a time for your child to participate in the Message and Liturgy together with their classmates.

Masks: The board has advised that in order to avoid cross-contamination, students are to leave their masks at their desks for recess breaks (unless they are wanting to wear them for the recess). Putting masks in pockets, carrying them around, using a baggie or lanyards are not recommended by Health. Therefore students, unless volunteering to wear them outside for recess, will leave them safely at their desk. Staff will continue to be masked outside.

Google Classroom/ D2L: Our staff will have their Google Classrooms/D2L up and running by end of day Monday. Although not all learning will be available virtually, our team is committed to supporting our learners as we go through this challenging time together. Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher if you are having difficulty accessing their Google Classroom / D2L.

Just a reminder that all staff and students should be completing the child health assessment each morning before coming to school. Do not send your child to school if they are showing any Covid symptoms, such as runny nose, cough, stomach pains, headache, etc. as outlined in the assessment. If your child shows these signs upon arriving or develops these symptoms at school, the office will notify a parent/guardian for a pick-up. As per Public health, any siblings must be picked up as well. Siblings will remain home until the ill sibling is symptom free for 24 hours.

Public Health is directing families then complete a COVID test or to see your doctor to confirm the illness to be something other than COVID. Once confirmed, your child may return to school 24 hours after being symptom-free. Please find the direction from Public Health here: Parent_Communication_for_School_Boards

Once again, “Thank you” Saints Community for your efforts and willingness to go above and beyond to help keep our students,  your children, safe and healthy.

Switching Between Remote Learning and Face to Face Learning

If you have chosen face-to face learning at St. Clement School, we are so excited to have begun the school year with you! Our staff is working hard to ensure that we are meeting the safety requirements put for the by the Ministry of Education and the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. All classes will use either Google Classsroom or D2L/BrightSpace online platforms this year and your children will be instructed as to how to login, access homework, activities, and other useful resources in the classroom. All students have received Learning Kits specific to their division and the items that they will need; these will stay at school.

Next week, families will have the opportunity to indicate their preference for face to face learning or join our virtual school effective October 13th. Please note the window to complete the form is from Sept. 24-28. Please monitor Newswire/Twitter/email for more information to complete the necessary paperwork within the required timelines.

Parental decisions to change your learning preference outside of the above timelines will not be possible due to staffing requirements.

Much thanks for your continued partnership in your child’s education.

Information for Parents

Dear Saints families,

We know these are highly stressful times for you as you consider whether or not to send your children back to school for face to face learning. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we do our very best…every single day… to provide a safe and clean learning environment for all. Please know there are countless checks and balances in place to ensure cleaning protocols are followed in all areas of the school. Staff are diligently working to ensure students wash their hands, sanitize their hands, use only their own materials in class, and teaching about proper physical distancing on the yard and the building. Your continued support and consistent messaging at home is greatly appreciated!

Thank you to the many parents, guardians, and caregivers who are following the Public Health Protocol. You are doing your part to keep everyone safe during this global pandemic. Please see the newly released communication tool from Public health for Parents/Guardians/ Caregivers. This clearly outlines the expectations for students to stay home while they are unwell, and/or awaiting the results of a COVID test. We have been asked to share this information today as they continue to field an overwhelming number of phone calls.

This link below will be updated in consultation with ROW Public Health. Please check this regularly to find information.

The Board has permitted staff and students to bring their own hand sanitizer if for personal use.  Any personal sanitizers should have not added perfume or scent. Also, the board is asking the we do not decant one brand of hand sanitizer into a container for another brand.  The label on any container must match the product that is inside.

For those that missed the original opt-in window, the next chance to select St. Isidore (virtual learning) or switch back to Face to Face at St. Clement happens on September 24th. It is only a 4-day window and the next opportunity to switch in or out happens in November.
