Christmas Message

The past few weeks at St. Clement Catholic Elementary School have been filled with much excitement – Christmas excitement. The students have shared the joy of the Christmas season with song, dance, artistic expressions, the twelve days of Christmas spirit days and through their smiles and laughter. As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, I wish you much peace, comfort and joy.  I sincerely hope that you all have an opportunity to experience the real meaning of Christmas, enjoy the festivities of the New Year and spend some quality time with loved ones. I look forward to welcoming everyone back for January 6th.

St. Clement Catholic Elementary School staff wish you and your family a joyful Christmas and a blessed New Year.

Reminders for the Upcoming Week at St. Clement

Umbrella Project Theme of the Month:

Growth Mindset:

PARENTING TIP OF THE MONTH: The following is a parenting tip from Teresa Hartnett, Family Ministry Office, Diocese of Hamilton

For Catholics, Christmas is about so much more than gifts:  it is the promise, through the birth of Jesus, of goodness and light coming into our lives. Do your children know this is the focus of Christmas? Advent and Christmas are perfect times to highlight the “reason for the season”. Read stories about the Advent wreath so they understand what each candle symbolizes; read the story of the Nativity (more than once!); be sure the tree is adorned with symbols of the faith; read family Advent reflections daily during Advent; attend Mass and reflect on the readings each week, including Christmas Day.  Faith sets a foundation on which to stand and Christmas is a perfect time to bring Christ into your family activities!

St. Clement Catholic Elementary School is OPEN tomorrow

Just below is the link that explains what is happening tomorrow.

St. Clement Catholic Elementary School is OPEN Tomorrow

As you may have heard, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) has announced plans for a one-day strike on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.
OSSTF does not represent any staff working in our elementary and secondary schools, therefore all Waterloo Catholic District School Board elementary and secondary schools will be open and running on their normal schedules tomorrow.
WCDSB teaching staff are represented by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), and negotiations with the province are still on-going. We are hopeful the two sides will reach a fair and respectful collective agreement.
However, OSSTF does represent some staff working at our St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres, and the one day strike will result in the following programs and services being CLOSED on December 4:
• English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at all campuses.
• Language Instruction for New Canadians (LINC) classes at all campuses.
• Literacy Basic Skills (LBS) classes – also known as CorE classes – at all campuses.
• Spots for Tots childcare and LINC Childminding sites at both the both the Downtown Kitchener Main Campus and the Highland Road campus.

PLEASE NOTE: All other St. Louis programs will be running on normal schedules.

Student Safety

We continue to experience some problems with drivers being unsafe with drop-off and pick-up of students. All drivers must obey parking signs on school property and on the streets surrounding the school. Avoid parking in the drive way, bus zone or near the bus loading area where students are walking.

Also when entering the school property, kindly use the side walks or main driveway to avoid trips, slips and falls during the winter months. Please avoid the grassy areas directly around the school and the grassy area in the middle of the ring road as they are not winter maintained.

We appreciate your cooperation with both of these important matters.

Inclement Weather Cancellations Communication

During the fall, winter and spring of the school year, unusual or severe weather conditions can lead to a number of different situations requiring cancellation of some or all student transportation. It is important that School Boards, the schools, the public, the media, vehicle operators and STSWR all initiate or receive the same message. This procedure attempts to simplify this process as it applies to both Boards.

For decisions made prior to the start of the school day, every effort will be made to ensure that a media announcement and fan out activation commences prior to 6AM.

One of the notifications listed above will be communicated in the following way:

STSWR:

    1. Cancellations are posted on STSWR’s home page stswr.ca
    2. STSWR’s “Delays and Cancellations” link  https://bpweb.stswr.ca/Cancellations.aspx
    3. Families have the option of receiving automatic notifications via email through our subscription service   https://www.stswr.ca/parents/
    4. Follow STSWR on twitter (@STSWR)
