Reminders for the Upcoming Week at St. Clement:

(Reminder: Friday Sept. 20 – is a PA Day – no school for students and Extended Day)

Catholic School Advisory Council:

Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC) (previously referred to as ‘School Council’)

All parents/guardians of our students are welcome to attend Catholic School Advisory Council meetings.
This is an excellent opportunity to get involved in the future direction of the school and/or participate in the many volunteer opportunities available throughout the year. Our first meeting is October 1st, at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Clement Library.
Future meeting dates will be set during this first meeting and will be posted on the school calendar.
If you wish to be a member of the 2019-2020 school council, please come out to our first meeting.

Student Safety

Thank you so very much for your support of student safety. We appreciate that you continue to reserve the parking lot for church parishioners and staff parking and that you do pick up and drop offs on the peripheral streets, gravel parking lot, etc. Thank you also to those students who continue to walk to school. Please be aware of the street signs and do not park in fire routes. Remind your child(ren) to walk their scooter or bike upon arrival to school property for the safety of others walking. Lastly, St. Clement CES recognizes that pets are an important part of family life for many in the school community, and as such are often included in day-today activities such as walking children to and from school. However, others may find the presence of dogs and other pets in the playground and school grounds stressful, even frightening particularly with younger children, and even well-behaved dogs and other pets can behave unpredictably when placed in a busy, noisy and crowded environment. To ensure that our school remains a safe and inclusive place for everyone, kindly do not bring any animals onto school property. Thank you for your continued support.

Toonies for Terry

Every year our school has a Terry Fox Run to raise money for cancer research. We call it ‘Toonies for Terry’ and ask all students to donate a toonie. Our school run is Thursday, September 26th, after last recess. Thank you!

Flags on all Ontario government buildings and establishments across the province will be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, September 29, 2019, in observance of Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day.

Where buildings are closed for the weekend, flags may be lowered at close of business on Friday, September 27, and remain at half-mast until business resumes on Monday, September 30.

THE UMBRELLA PROJECT

We are in Year 2 of The Umbrella Project. In September, we are practicing ‘Being a Welcoming Friend’. The October umbrella skill is ‘Empathy’. We are excited to keep building our umbrella skills to promote resilience! Parents, please check out the new website (https://umbrellaproject.co/) and the “For Parents” tab.

Lunch

At St. Clement School we are lucky to have our Hot Lunch Program (which will begin on September 25th). Every Wednesday students are a variety of options and these hot lunches are delivered to our school and to your child’s classroom. In the instance where your child (who normally stays for lunch) would like to go out for lunch, we ask that you send a signed and dated note. Please encourage your child to make healthy choices. We have had students return to the school with large amounts of candy and/or large drinks with caffeine and sugar. These types of choices can affect a student’s ability to think and focus throughout the day. Thanks for your support.

Vehicular Traffic and Student Safety

Student safety is of primary importance to all members of the St. Clement community. Thank you to all parents who have been walking their children to and from school, as well as to those who are safely dropping off and picking up children from school property. We recently had two close incidents of student safety and vehicular traffic and therefore are asking that you carefully read this message.

Although we encourage all students who don’t qualify for bussing to walk to school, the following are the guidelines that we expect of all parents/caregivers who drive students:

  1. Church Parking lot use is restricted to parishioners, staff, and those who are coming into the school to volunteer or for a meeting. The Church parking lot is not safe to drop students off or to pick up at the end of the day.
  2. The roadways that surround the school are safe pick up and drop off spots as well as the parking lot between the Community Library and the church rectory. Charles street may be your best drop off / pickup area. Please park on the street and walk your child safely to the school. Follow the signs posted in front of the school and on the streets.
  3. Please do not park in front of the buses. This causes delays and can be dangerous for our students.
  4. Please do not block the area where the van/bus for special transportation loads and unloads.
  5. When walking your child into the school please avoid walking in the middle of the church driveway entrance. Instead the safest way to enter our building is down the sidewalk on Lobsinger Line to the sidewalk that leads to the school and then stick to the side of the driveway until reaching the playground.
  6. Lastly, a reminder that there are no supervisors on the yard before 8:35 AM and that students are not to arrive before this time.

Thank you to the families that follow the safety rules at St. Clement School. We appreciate all that you can do to keep our students safe and St. Clements a safe place for all.

I am receiving feedback from some parents that they are having difficulties accessing the forms on Cash-on-line. I have made the board aware of this and they are trying to rectify the situation. Thank you for your patience.

Reminders for the Upcoming Week at St. Clement:

Welcome Back! It has been an exciting start-up. There has been some construction over the summer to the office area and a portion of the Learning Commons. These areas are still in the process of being completed but are looking beautiful already! Construction will continue in the fall with the elevator and then next summer with the classrooms.

Student Agendas: Our Premier Agenda representative indicated that they have experienced a significant problem with their new Shutter Fly process. This is affecting all boards in the province and approximately 800 schools. Therefore, there continues to be a delay in the delivery. The board will let us know once they have additional information.

Flags at all Ontario government buildings and establishments across the province will be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, September 8, 2019, to mark Firefighters’ National Memorial Day. The school’s flag will be at half -mast at the end of the day Friday and then flown at full mast on September 9.
