WCDSB Schools to Re-open on Tuesday, November 8, 2022

As a result of this morning’s announcement by the Premier that the Ontario government will rescind Bill 28 and will return to collective bargaining with the Canadian Public Sector Employees Union – Ontario — (CUPE), education workers represented by CUPE have agreed to pause their job action and return to schools effective tomorrow – Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

This means all WCDSB schools (including St. Louis) will be open on November 8 for a regular day of classes.

All school transportation will be running as regularly scheduled.

All WCDSB extended day programs will be running on their regular schedules.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we transitioned into remote learning.

We pray that both sides will quickly reach a fair and just collective agreement that serves the interests of all.

Family Weekly Memo #10 – November 7-11

Thought for the Week:  WE REMEMBER! Please thank our veterans.

Hopefully, everyone is enjoying the extra hour as daylight savings come to an end and clocks went back an hour last night. The weekend has also provided us with some beautiful fall weather and hopefully, you have also been able to enjoy it and spend some time outdoors.

It appears at this time there is still no final determination in regard to the ongoing labour relations between CUPE  and the government. Our St. Clement CUPE employees include our Library technician, our office administrative assistants, our educational assistants, our early childhood educators, our child youth care workers, and our lunch hour supervisors. As communicated previously, due to any continued CUPE labour action all WCDSB elementary and secondary schools will be closed, including our before and after school programs as we migrate to remote learning. Devices were deployed to students who require them last week, so students can continue to access learning. If you are still in need of a device, please complete the request form here: https://lf.wcdsb.ca/forms/APC052-05F

In preparation for the possibility of school closures continuing this week, classroom teachers will be sharing the remote learning schedule with all students and families. It is similar to the schedule we followed during online learning last year.

  • School starts at  8:50 AM
  • Students are expected to join their class online and follow the class schedule
  • The day is a combination of synchronous & asynchronous learning with breaks and lunch
  • School ends at 3:20 PM

For our FDK Families, the schedule will be a little bit different. Due to the absence of ECEs in the classroom, class sizes must be reduced to 15 students. This means FDK students would be attending half-day online sessions either in the morning. The classroom teachers will be communicating the learning groups and schedules for their classes with their families.

Attendance at school is a requirement for students registered at schools in Ontario whether it is remote or in person. Teachers will be taking attendance and the school administration will be following up with families.

  • If your child is going to be absent please continue to call the school to report the absence.
  • If you are planning to exempt your child from online learning during the closure, please send an email to sherry.macdonald@wcdsb.ca stating that you are approving your child’s absence during the closure.

Please stay tuned for any further updates regarding the labour dispute. We hope and pray we are able to resume in-person learning soon.

This week at a glance,

  • Monday, November 7 – Synchronous Learning. Please follow the regular school schedule. Except for Kindergarten. Your child will be attending either AM or PM. The teachers will contact you accordingly.
  • Tuesday, November 8 –  Catholic School Advisory Council in the Library Learning Commons 6-7:30. All are welcome!
  • Wednesday, November 9 – Hot Lunch
  • Thursday, November 10- Spirit Day – please wear blue, yellow or Saint spirit wear.
  • Friday, November 11- Pizza Day!

Parent Action Item: Please consider having your child join in on a school-wide turkey lunch feast on November 23rd. You may order and pay via School Cash Online up until November 17th.

Thank you for your donations to our school fundraiser. We raised almost $2500. The money will be used to supplement outdoor equipment.

All staff and students must self-screen every day before attending school. All staff and students who are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool, must not attend school and should follow the guidance provided in the screening tool, which may include seeking appropriate medical attention as required, and/or getting tested for COVID-19. Prayer

God of all seasons, we thank you for Autumn.

We thank you

for the touch of coolness in the air that gives us a new burst of energy,

for the coloring of trees that shows the creativity of the Divine Artist,

for the falling leaves that reveal the strength of the branches,

for the hues of fields that bring peace to our souls,

for the smiles on pumpkins that bring joy to children,

for the fall harvest which that brings us gratitude for the bounty of our land,

for this change of seasons that reveals the circle of life.

God of all seasons, as you transform the earth, transform us by your Spirit.

Amen
