Catholic School Advisory Council: Our first meeting is on October 4, at 6 pm in the Innovation Lab (beside the Library). ALL ARE WELCOME!

We are not able to refund or save pizza if your child is absent on Pizza Days. Please let the office know prior to 11 and we can put your aside if you would like to come to pick it up by noon on Pizza Fridays.

Please sign off the permission for your child to go home at lunch on School Cash Online. We have 8-12 students a day signing out for lunch. If you complete the form it is okay for them to stay, they are not compelled to leave! That being said, if they are signing out they are leaving from 11:35 to at least 12:15. 

We are waiting to hear from the Board if there will be tutoring opportunities at our school. We will forward information as it comes available.

Please let Mrs. MacDonald know if you are interested in being a lunch hour supervisor. The hours are 11:35-12:35 each day. This is a paid position.

• Be able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check document (i.e., police check)

Desirable Assets:

• Experience working with children
• Willingness to assume a wide variety of duties;
• Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with students, parents, staff and the general public;
• Ability to work as a team player;
• Current First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.

Salary Range: $22.20 – $23.46 per hour, Level 1 (Compensation Grid effective September 1, 2021)

Hours of Work:  1 hour per day between 11:35 am to 12:35 pm (Monday to Friday)

Effective Date: Immediately following the onboarding process

Weeks/Year: Approx. 41 weeks/year (September – June)

Today is a Provincial Day of Mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  Since the death of the Queen, there has been much discussion around the world, including here in Ontario, regarding fitting gestures in communities and schools to mark the passing of a Sovereign who has served the Commonwealth, and as Canada’s head of state, for seven decades.

At the direction of the Ontario government, we will honour the Queen with a moment of silence at 1:00 pm.  At St Clement, we will also provide each class with “Tea Time with the Queen”.  Each class will have an opportunity to learn about her life, her goals, her likes and dislikes, and have a biscuit while doing it.  (gluten-free/dairy free is available)

In our ongoing attempt to live our mission and be “a place for all” we hold space for both our continued action on Truth and Reconciliation, equity and inclusion, and a dignified recognition of the woman who so selflessly gave to our nation; our Queen.

We look forward to learning more about Queen Elizabeth II as a person, and a monarch and the issues that this may raise.

On August 31, 2022, the Province dropped the mandatory 5-day isolation rule for individuals who test positive for COVID-19. The Childcare and School COVID-19 screening tool has been updated to reflect these changes. Please complete the screener each morning  https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

We are looking for lunch-hour supervisors for St Clement and St Teresa Elmira. Please contact Mrs. MacDonald if you are interested. 

Please note that all medicine coming to school must be a prescription from a medical doctor and the administration of oral medication form must be completed.

Important Reminder about Signing In or Out: If your child is leaving early or arrives late, please ensure that you have signed them in or out of the Main Office. We appreciate you giving your teacher notification, but it is essential that Mrs. Simpson in the Office is aware so that she may accurately reflect attendance in the building. The Main Office is open from 8:30-4:00 and Mrs. Simpson takes lunch from 1-1:30.

We understand that parents may want to allow children to bring toys to school to play at recess. Please remind students that they are not to “trade” or “give away” their toys. What they bring to school is what they should bring home.

On September 23rd our school will be proudly participating in the Terry Fox School Run. Over 9,000 schools across Canada are taking part in the run this year and that means that over 3 million students will be fundraising for cancer research in Terry’s name. This is one of our favourite events of the year – we get to celebrate the life of Terry Fox, his Marathon of Hope, and show our incredible school spirit as we come together to help others.

We all know that Terry Fox is one of our greatest Canadian heroes but sometimes we forget how hard his struggle was and why we continue to do the Terry Fox Run every year. Our event this year is an opportunity to take action, show leadership, and set examples of compassion and kindness towards others. Students will be staying on school grounds and each class will have an opportunity to participate remaining in their division (Kindergarten- Grade 3 and Grade 4- Grade 8). Each student will receive a freezie treat after their run/ walk. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have an issue or concern with this. Please send your child to school prepared with running shoes, a water bottle and a red/ white outfit to show support for our Canadian hero!

Individuals who are experiencing symptoms should complete the Childcare and School COVID-19 screening tool (updated September 9, 2022) and follow the guidance.

 NEW COVID PROTOCOLS: Please read each page of the screener carefully, including the guidance on the school screening result page.

 If you do not pass the COVID-19 screener and are not immunocompromised

Stay home (self-isolate) until you do not have a fever and your symptoms have been improving for at least 24 hours (48 hours if you had nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea). Retake this screening every day before you go to school or childcare.

 For 10 days after your symptoms started:

• wear a well-fitted mask in all public settings (including school and child care)
• avoid non-essential activities where you need to take off your mask (for example, playing a wind instrument in music class or removing your mask for sports or dining out)
• avoid visiting anyone who is immunocompromised or may be at higher risk of illness (for example, seniors)
• avoid non-essential visits to highest-risk settings such as hospitals and long-term care homes

For those with negative COVID‑19 test results, these additional precautions can be an added layer of prevention against the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses circulating in the community.

Siblings or other people you live with

For 10 days after your last exposure to the household member with COVID‑19 symptoms, you should:

• self-monitor for symptoms. Stay home (self-isolate) immediately if you develop any symptoms of COVID‑19, and seek testing if eligible
• wear a well-fitted mask in all public settings (including school and child care)
• avoid non-essential activities where they need to take off their mask (for example, playing a wind instrument in music class or removing their mask for sports or dining out)
• avoid non-essential visits to anyone who is immunocompromised or who may be at higher risk of illness (for example, seniors)
• avoid non-essential visits to highest-risk settings such as hospitals and long-term care homes

Regardless of negative COVID‑19 test results, these additional precautions can be an added layer of prevention against the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses circulating in the community.

If you do not pass the covid-19 screener and are immunocompromised

If you test positive for COVID‑19 or do not get tested

• Stay home (self-isolate) and do not attend school or childcare for at least 10 days and until you do not have a fever and your symptoms have been improving for at least 24 hours (48 hours if you had nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea).
• When determining your isolation period, the day your symptoms began is day 0 and you could return to school or childcare on day 11.

Note: The duration of isolation may be modified based on your health care provider’s direction.

If you test negative for COVID‑19

If COVID‑19 testing was available and you had a negative result from 1 PCR test or rapid molecular test, or from 2 rapid antigen tests taken 24 to 48 hours apart, you can return to school or childcare if your symptoms started improving for at least 24 hours (48 hours if you had nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea) and you do not have a fever.

For 10 days after your symptoms started, the following additional precautions can be an added layer of prevention against the spread of other respiratory viruses circulating in the community:

• wear a well-fitted mask in all public settings (including school and child care)
• avoid non-essential activities where you need to take off your mask (for example, playing a wind instrument in music class or removing your mask for sports or dining out)
• avoid visiting anyone who is immunocompromised or may be at higher risk of illness (for example, seniors)
• avoid non-essential visits to highest-risk settings such as hospitals and long-term care homes

Recess: We will continue to separate students on the yard by “zones” – Kindergarten, Primary, Junior, and Intermediate. Students will have designated line-up spots and will be expected to physically distance themselves while walking in lines to enter and exit the building. 

Current Grade 5 & 8 students will be bringing home an envelope with important information. The envelope contains your child’s results and a parent guide regarding the CCAT and CAT testing that was completed last year.

Agendas for Grades 1-8 are available for all. We ask that you pay $5 on Cash Online to recover a portion of the costs. Please review with your child and sign where indicated. Kindergarten students will be using the communication of learning system.

Allergy Alert & Medical Information: Please do not send your student to school with peanuts or any scented product (including perfume, hairspray, lotion, sanitizer). We are trying to keep all of our staff and students safe. If you are new to our school or if your child has a new medical condition, please email Mrs. Simpson with this information. We are so excited to be having co-curricular trips back!!

The Grade 7 and 8 students will be going to Treetop Trekking in Hamilton for a day of physical activity and fun in the tree tops. The day will include Zip Line and an Aerial Game Trek.  Please see the website for additional information. https://treetoptrekking.com/park/hamilton/

The date for the trip is Friday, September 30, 2022. There is no cost to students for the bus or the activity. This amazing adventure is made possible through the Outdoor Education Budget.

Wow..the Saints really like competition!

Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. MacDonald will be bringing two slices of pizza for lunch to each awesome Saint in Grades 1-6.
